Dr David Sissons – BAPP SCI (Chiro)
I first became interested in Chiropractic after having a sports injury successfully managed when at Horowhenua College. I completed my degree in Melbourne, Australia in 1988 and have been in practice ever since.
Our physical health is an outcome of the interaction between our genes, our environment and our behaviours. It is expressed via our hormonal and nervous systems which control every cell in our body. Chiropractic is well placed to aid in this expression by ensuring the function of joints, muscles and their biochemistry (through healthy nutrition) are optimal.
I decided to be a Chiropractor while studying in the USA. It seemed a logical choice as Chiropractic has been part of my life since I was born. I have been part of the practice since Jan 1997 and every year love my work more than the last.
To me the most amazing thing about Chiropractic care is it helps the body to heal itself and function to an optimum. Outside of work I keep busy with my 2 children Ben and Robbie, and co-ordinate the Wellington Chiropractic study group. I also volunteer as a Surf Lifesaving NZ official.
Dr Jacob Lewis – B.Sc (Biol.), B.Chiro, Cert. AK
I first heard about Chiropractic at a Careers Fair part way through my third year at Canterbury University. The conversation that ensued opened my eyes to the potential of Chiropractic and inspired me with a desire to become a Chiropractor.
In 2012 I moved to Auckland to study at the NZ College of Chiropractic. As my studies progressed, I came to appreciate the importance of health and the different ways we can look after our body – through healthy movement, eating, thinking, relationships and Chiropractic adjustments. When we support our body, our body will support us in our efforts to live with purpose, meaning and fulfilment. My goal is to help you experience your full capacity of life and health through quality Chiropractic care. This involves examining your lifestyle for contributing stress factors, assessing your body for areas of nerve system dysfunction, making specific adjustments to facilitate better movement, strength and balance and educating you on how to look after your body so you can live life to the fullest.
I finished my studies in 2015 and have lived and worked in Wellington since then. I love running, playing sports and board games, reading, listening to music, sharing time with friends and being involved in my church community in Tawa.
Dr Caitlyn MacQuarrie – B.Chiro.
I always wanted to spend my life in a healthcare profession, devoted to helping people be better versions of themselves. I was first introduced to chiropractic during high school while competing in triathlon. I completed my studies in 2020 and have spent the past few years providing chiropractic care to the sunny Bay of Plenty community.
I love working with families who choose to follow a vitalistic model of healthcare – building health from the inside out. I am passionate about helping people from all walks of life move better, function well and live with greater well-being through natural means.
I grew up in Auckland after moving from Malaysia when I was 5 years old. I was brought to chiropractic when I was 12 years old by my mum and reintroduced at a career expo where I decided that this was the optimal way to make a difference in the world. After finishing up my studies, I moved down to Wellington with my partner. Nowadays, we spend our free time feeding the birds at the botanical gardens, cooking and playing video games.
I enjoy crafts, tending to my plants and baking. I love seeing my projects go from small to big, from an idea to a structure. This same concept is part of why I wanted to have chiropractic in my life. I love seeing people get from one point in their health journey, to a new more stable one and it’s very humbling to be a part of the process to get there.
I am excited to use the knowledge I’ve accumulated to make the Porirua community a happier and healthier place that can thrive with the help of a well functioning nervous system.
Chiropractic Assistants
Mary Glendining: Practice Manager
My home town is here in Porirua. I have spent the last 25 years living in Wellington and have worked for Cheyne and Sissons Chiropractic for the last 34 years. As Practice Manager my main aim and focus is to make sure that our team and office are taken care of so that we give the best service to all our clients.
I have lived in Porirua all of my life and have worked at the clinic for the past 36 years – full-time before having my two daughters and now part-time. My role as a Chiropractic Assistant is to make our patients feel comfortable and welcome at all times as well as assisting in the efficient running of the clinic.
Jaimee Howatson:
Hello my name is Jaimee and I am new to the Cheyne and Sissons team.
I grew up in the Wairarapa region and moved to Wellington to pursue a career in aviation. This lead me to 8 beautiful years working as a flight attendant and travelling the world (my favourite place is Africa).
However, these days life is much slower, so you’ll find me enjoying all things food and coffee or spending time with family and their four legged friends.
I am looking forward to expanding my knowledge in chiropractic care, along with health and wellbeing.
